Is Comprehensive DBT therapy at 
Wise Mind right for you?

At Wise Mind Therapy we exclusively practice Comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Online for adults. This is an evidenced based treatment proven to help a wide variety of people make desired changes in their behavior. DBT can help with decreasing things like anxiety, suicidal thoughts, hopelessness, impulsivity, perfectionism, extreme moods and emotional outbursts. DBT can also help with increasing emotion regulation, relationship skills, mindfulness of the moment, understanding of emotions, meeting life goals and increasing effective behavior that helps you build the life you want to live. 

From a DBT perspective the reason people have problems regulating their emotions is not due to them choosing to be dysregulated or because of some personal failing. Instead we believe it comes from an inborn biological sensitivity to having intense emotions, coupled with a lack of being given support or taught skills to effectively regulate these emotions. But the environment you were raised in didn't know how to teach you the skills you needed to regulate your emotions and build the life you want to have. Learning these skills requires someone to teach them to you, and then supportively mentor you in a way that helps you master them.

To do this, Comprehensive DBT consists of the following 4 mandatory components:

1. Weekly 2 hour online DBT skills group - Where you learn the missing skills needed     to change your life
   
2. Weekly 1 hour online individual therapy with a therapist specially trained in         individual DBT

       Your individual therapist will partner with you to:            
           
--> discover what is getting in your way  to changing
           
--> target the things you want to change in your life
​           --> strategize the steps skills you need to achieve your goals
​           --> provide support, validation, and accountability as you work toward goals

3. Phone/text skills coaching - You will be able to phone/text your therapist        for Skills suggestions between sessions in order to help you become more fluid in using skills when you need them. 

4. Your Individual therapist will attend a weekly DBT team meeting -For expert consultation, support and to ensure adherence to the Comprehensive DBT model. 


When people  read the 4 mandatory components of Comprehensive DBT they often have one of three reactions:
  • "YES!" This is exactly the kind of depth and support I'm looking for. Sign me up!
  • "MAYBE?" That sounds like a lot of therapy...but maybe it could help me? How do I find out       more?
  • "No, this isn't for me right now."  We understand. Thank you for taking the time to learn about our practice.

We'll get back to you within 2 weekdays and schedule a 60 minute intake call (free if charge) so you can get started with Comprehensive DBT. During the phone call we'll ask you some general information about past therapy and what you want to work on during your treatment with us. You'll also have time to ask any questions you have. At the end of the phone call we'll most likely schedule your first appointment with us.

Cost of therapy: 
For individual therapy we are in network with Premera and Lifewise. We do not accept any other insurance. Our self-pay fee ranges from $155 - $195 depending on the experience of the therapist. Typical duration of DBT treatment is 6 months to a year. 

Cost of skills class: 
We refer to Seattle DBT Online Skills for skills class. The price there is $75/night and they are not in network with insurance. You are not required to attend Skills class at Seattle DBT Online Skills. We are not aware of any places who teach all the DBT skills and cost less or take insurance. It takes 24 weeks to go through one entire round of DBT skills.

Location:
Both individual therapy and DBT skills class take place online using a HIPAA compliant version of the zoom platform. We are able to meet with anyone located in Washington state.
